Pollsters Unable to Predict It – Latest News from Milliyet
Turkey’s Presidential election is yet to be finalized, but unofficial results show that incumbent President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has received 49.6% of the votes, falling just short of the 50% threshold required to win outright in the first round. His main opponent, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, received 44.6% of the votes, according to the Anadolu Agency. The third candidate, Sinan Oğan, received 5%. The parliamentary voting rates were 49.8% for Erdogan’s People’s Alliance, 34.9% for Kılıçdaroğlu’s Nation Alliance, and 10% for the Labor and Freedom Alliance. While most of the pre-election polls predicted Kılıçdaroğlu would come out on top, some survey results from companies like Genar and Optimar had Erdogan above the 50% threshold. The official results are yet to come, and the winner will be announced after the second round of voting, which will be held on June 24th.
