Authorities Crack Down on Manipulated Videos of Law Enforcement Officers
In recent news, authorities have taken action against the manipulation of videos depicting Road Traffic Safety Service officers. It has been reported that certain individuals have been editing footage, removing certain parts, and adding defamatory content or movie scenes before circulating the altered videos on social media platforms. In response to this alarming trend, fines and administrative detention have been introduced for those found guilty of deliberately distorting and distributing photos and videos of law enforcement officers.
According to the recent amendments to the Code of Administrative Responsibility, individuals who distribute photos or videos of law enforcement officers in a manner that tarnishes their reputation may face hefty penalties. Those found guilty could be subject to a fine of 50 times the base calculation unit or up to 10 days of administrative detention.
During a press conference held on February 25 with the leadership of the Road Traffic Safety Service, a reporter raised concerns about the vague definition of “discrediting” officers through the dissemination of videos. Erali Bozorov, Deputy Head of the Road Traffic Safety Service, clarified that the law specifically targets the deliberate manipulation of photos and videos. Any editing that distorts the original footage, such as adding movie scenes or altering the context, constitutes a violation.
Furthermore, individuals are encouraged to report any misconduct by law enforcement officers through proper channels, such as the Internal Security Service or the leadership of the respective department. If an officer is found to have acted unlawfully, disciplinary actions will be taken accordingly.
Road Traffic Safety Service Officer, Azizkhon Murodov, emphasized the importance of addressing the intentional manipulation of videos and photos. He noted that many videos shared on social media platforms only show selected moments of an incident, while crucial details are omitted. The addition of defamatory elements or movie scenes further distorts the context and damages the officer’s reputation.
