Postponement of Uzbek-Kyrgyz automobile plant launch announced

Uzbekistan-Kyrgyz joint car plant launch postponed due to weather conditions

The planned launch of the Uzbekistan-Kyrgyz joint car plant has been postponed due to weather conditions, as stated by Daniyar Amangeldiyev, Minister of Economy and Trade of Kyrgyzstan. According to the agreed “roadmap” by the presidents of the two countries, the enterprise was initially scheduled to be operational at the beginning of this year, with the assembly of cars set to begin in July.

However, due to the current weather conditions, the launch date has been moved to the first half of 2024. Despite this delay, progress on the construction of the plant in the Sokuluk district is reportedly advancing rapidly, with expectations to present the first products by the end of the first half of the year.

The joint venture includes the Uzavtosanoat company, “DT Tekhnik” and “Nur” as partners, and aims to produce 30,000 cars and create 1,000 jobs within six years. Plans to assemble 19 models of Chevrolet, Daewoo, and Isuzu cars at the plant are in place, with a total investment estimated at 50 million dollars.

Construction on the factory began in May of last year, with Kyrgyzstan’s Prime Minister Akilbek Japarov citing the project’s “strategic importance for both countries” during the start of construction. Despite the setback, the joint car plant remains a significant collaboration between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, with expectations for a successful launch once weather conditions permit.
