Predictions for the New Minimum Wage – Latest News Update

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that reaching a decision on the minimum wage issue should not be done at the expense of any involved party. This was made clear in a press conference he held with journalists while returning from the United Arab Emirates. He emphasized that the government will not oppress citizens when it comes to the minimum wage.
Erdoğan further explained that the Minister of Labor and Social Security, Vedat Işıkhan, is actively working on this issue and that once the process is completed, an appropriate minimum wage will be decided. The primary goal is to conclude this matter without any party being negatively affected. He also mentioned that this process will be finalized with a single raise, and Minister Işıkhan is responsible for leading this effort.
On the other hand, Minister Vedat Işıkhan announced that the minimum wage determination commission will hold its first meeting on December 11. The new minimum wage will be announced in December following a series of 4 meetings. Social Security Expert Emin Yılmaz presented 4 different scenarios regarding the possible minimum wage changes based on varying year-end inflation rates.
Minister Işıkhan indicated that the government is committed to handling this issue with sensitivity and in a manner that supports compromise and mutual agreement among employee and employer representatives. He expressed optimism about the upcoming commission meetings and highlighted the government’s desire to build a stronger and more prosperous future for Turkey in collaboration with all parties involved.
