President Aliyev reveals new street signs in Azerbaijan.
President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, recently unveiled street name signs at the intersection of Heydar Aliyev, Zafar, and 28 May streets in the city of Lachin. The president was accompanied by Masim Mammadov, the Special Representative of the President in the Lachin district, who informed him about the work that would be done in the streets.
The Heydar Aliyev Street, Zafar Street, and 28 May Street in Lachin measure 6967 meters, 5239 meters, and 1703 meters, respectively, and have a width of about 10-12 meters. President Aliyev was briefed on the work carried out in the city of Lachin and the reconstruction concept of Heydar Aliyev Street. He then unveiled the street name signs.
The unveiling of street name signs is an important step in recognizing the contributions of prominent personalities to the country’s development. Heydar Aliyev, who served as the President of Azerbaijan from 1993 to 2003, is an illustrious leader who transformed the country’s economy, governance, and infrastructure. It is, therefore, fitting that one of the major streets in Lachin has been named after him.
Zafar Street, which means “victory” in the Azerbaijani language, symbolizes the triumph of Azerbaijan in the 44-day war against Armenia in 2020. This victory led to the liberation of Lachin and other Azerbaijani territories from Armenian occupation, which lasted almost three decades. The naming of Zafar Street is thus a way of celebrating Azerbaijan’s successful military campaign.
28 May Street, on the other hand, commemorates the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan on May 28, 1918. This was a historic event that marked the country’s transition from centuries of colonial rule to independence. The proclamation of the First Azerbaijan Republic ushered in a new era of state-building, modernization, and cultural renaissance. The naming of a street after this historic event is a reminder of the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters and the determination of the Azerbaijani people to build a prosperous and democratic country.
