Positive and Productive Meeting Between Erdoğan and Özel, Says CHP Sources
A recent meeting between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu lasted 1.5 hours, according to sources within the CHP.
Following the meeting, Kılıçdaroğlu did not make a statement but proceeded to the CHP Headquarters. CHP sources later revealed that the Erdoğan-Özel meeting was described as positive and productive.
The sources noted that there is optimism for progress in solving various issues and conflicts between the two leaders. In a surprising gesture of goodwill, both Erdoğan and Özel exchanged gifts during the meeting.
President Erdoğan presented Özel with a cup set from the National Palaces, along with tea and honey. In return, Özel gifted Erdoğan with an object known as the “Fire of the Republic”.
Overall, the positive nature of the meeting and the exchange of gifts hint at a possible thaw in relations between the government and the opposition in Turkey.
