President Gives Reasons for Excluding Akayev’s Portrait from Yntymak Ordo

Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov recently gave an interview to the Kabar state news agency, where he explained why the portrait of former President Askar Akayev will not be hung in Yntymak Ordo. Japarov emphasized that it was not because Akayev was unworthy, but rather due to the mistakes made during his tenure.
Japarov acknowledged the significant contributions of Akayev to the development of Kyrgyzstan but pointed out critical errors that led to his downfall. One major misstep was the failure to control the privatization program, leading to corruption and the destruction of vital industries. Additionally, the mismanagement of agriculture and poor personnel choices were highlighted as key mistakes during Akayev’s presidency.
The Kyrgyz President also noted that Akayev’s decision to stay in power for too long ultimately led to his downfall, with the people eventually overthrowing him. Japarov stressed the importance of learning from history and avoiding similar pitfalls in the future.
In contrast, Japarov praised the leadership of Apas Dzhumagulov, highlighting his role in navigating the country through challenging times and setting it on the path to sustainable development. He called for the recognition of such outstanding individuals by displaying their portraits in state institutions.
Ultimately, Japarov emphasized the need to prioritize the interests of the majority, learn from past mistakes, and work towards the development and renewal of Kyrgyzstan. By doing so, he believes the country can earn the appreciation and respect of its people.
