
President Grants Pardons on Constitution Day

President of Uzbekistan Pardons 334 Persons Serving Sentences
In honor of the 31st anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a decree pardoning 334 individuals who are currently serving sentences in penal institutions and probation bodies. The pardon is specifically for those who have sincerely repented for their actions and have shown a strong commitment to rehabilitation.
The decree, titled “On pardoning a group of persons who are serving sentences, sincerely repented of their deeds and firmly embarked on the path of recovery,” serves as a practical demonstration of the country’s humanitarian policy.
Under the terms of the decree, 34 individuals have been fully released from their main punishment, 249 have been released from serving their sentence on parole, and the sentence of deprivation of liberty for 6 individuals has been replaced by a milder punishment. Additionally, the terms of punishment for 45 individuals in the form of deprivation of liberty have been reduced.
It is noteworthy that 18 of those pardoned are foreign citizens, 23 are women, 15 are over 60 years old, and 88 have been involved in the activities of banned organizations.
In response to the pardons, responsible ministries and agencies have been given tasks to assist the individuals in returning to their families and homes, adapting to social life, engaging in meaningful work, establishing a healthy lifestyle, and finding a worthy place in society.
This act of clemency highlights the country’s commitment to helping individuals reintegrate into society and rebuild their lives after serving their sentences.
