President mandates energy-efficient heating systems for 1 million homes

Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasizes energy efficiency and use of alternative sources

On August 27, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan held a meeting to address the issues surrounding energy efficiency and the expansion of alternative energy sources in the country.

During the meeting, it was highlighted that specific targets for saving electricity and natural gas had been set earlier in the year for different regions of the country. The President also mentioned that during his visit to the Fergana region in July, more advanced methods of achieving these targets were showcased. Strategies such as balancing the load on transformers in substations and installing reactive power batteries in transformers serving water pumps were identified as ways to save electricity consumption. Additionally, replacing old gas burners with energy-efficient ones and insulating heating systems were highlighted as methods to save gas. The goal to replace the heating systems of 1 million apartments with energy-saving technology was also discussed.

President Mirziyoyev pointed out that only 25% of large consumers have adopted modern gas-saving equipment, and urged regional administrations and Energoinspektsia to address this issue. He also tasked large gas-consuming enterprises to implement energy-saving technologies that are supported by scientific and technical foundations.

As per a presidential order, the oversight of electricity, oil products, and gas usage has been transferred to the Cabinet of Ministers, which is expected to enhance monitoring and regulatory efficiency.

The meeting also emphasized the success of establishing renewable energy systems in certain provinces of Uzbekistan, with strict adherence to relevant regulations.

“Establishing alternative energy sources is a state policy,” President Mirziyoyev stated during the meeting.

Regional governors and heads of energy sectors provided updates on the measures being taken to save electricity and natural gas in their respective regions.

Efforts to improve energy efficiency and promote the use of alternative energy sources are key components of Uzbekistan’s strategy towards energy independence and sustainability.
