President Mirziyoyev announces $50 million grant plan to combat desertification and improve greening initiatives

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev recently led a video conference to assess the progress of the national project “Green Space” in Uzbekistan and to establish future goals. The initiative aims to increase greenery across the country and enhance environmental sustainability.

As part of the project, this year saw 2,000 hectares of land along roads, rivers, and canals leased to 10,000 residents and entrepreneurs for greening efforts. Additionally, 49 billion UZS were allocated from the budget for the “My Garden” project, leading to the development of 215 new parks in local communities.

During the conference, President Mirziyoyev highlighted the need to increase the production of saplings suitable for Uzbekistan’s climate. He emphasized collaboration with various scientific institutions and organizations to boost seed and sapling production. Plans are in place to establish gardens with drought-resistant plants in key districts by 2025 and use drones to sow seeds on desert land.

Efforts are also being made to harvest seeds annually, establish a production line for drought-resistant saplings, organize fairs for sapling distribution, and plant millions of saplings in the coming years. The government is also focusing on a program to combat desertification and secure funding for environmental initiatives.

In addition, a monitoring platform for desert areas and improvements to the drainage system in Tashkent are being prioritized to ensure sustainable environmental practices. The aim is to address land degradation, promote efficient water usage, and enhance green spaces across the country.

Overall, the national project “Green Space” underscores Uzbekistan’s commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development for a greener future.
