President Mirziyoyev Orders Ministry of Transport to Develop Alternative Trade Routes

Uzbekistan Aims to Strengthen Logistics Network Through Revised Road Transport Agreements
Uzbekistan is taking steps to enhance its logistics network by establishing and revising road transport agreements with 12 countries. This strategy, outlined in a presidential decree presented to Shavkat Mirziyoyev, aims to reduce freight transportation costs, diversify international routes, facilitate transportation along new directions, and lower overall transport expenses. The country has also developed a comprehensive program to define its transport, logistics, and freight transit strategy through 2030.
The Ministry of Transport is tasked with creating alternative routes for trade with countries facing transportation obstacles and improving Uzbekistan’s ranking in the Logistics Performance Index (LPI) from 88th to at least 55th place by 2030. To achieve this goal, the government plans to establish logistics centers, camps, TIR parks, and other facilities along international roadways.
President Mirziyoyev has emphasized the importance of identifying alternative routes for foreign trade operations and creating favorable conditions for domestic freight carriers. Proposed alternative transport corridors include routes through Turkmenistan, Iran, Turkey, the EU, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Afghanistan.
Uzbekistan plans to conclude new international road transport agreements with Belgium, Armenia, Serbia, Norway, Croatia, and Albania, while revising agreements with China, Iran, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, and Romania. By 2025, the volume of transit transportation is projected to increase by 13.7%, reaching 14.6 million tons, with growth expected from key routes such as Belarus—Pakistan, China—Europe, and China—Afghanistan.
In addition, Uzbekistan is planning to implement a “green corridor” system and establish mutual recognition of transport documentation. Border checkpoints will be expanded, and electronic queue systems and online monitoring will be introduced to streamline transportation processes. These initiatives are part of Uzbekistan’s broader strategy to strengthen its logistics network and enhance its competitiveness in the global market.
