President Mirziyoyev Urges Tashkent Drainage System Upgrades
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev Calls for Urgent Improvements to Tashkent’s Drainage System
Following recent heavy rains that exposed significant shortcomings in Tashkent’s drainage system, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the state of the city’s infrastructure. During a video conference focused on the progress of the national “Green Space” initiative, the president emphasized the need for swift and comprehensive improvements to address the issues.
Mirziyoyev highlighted the inefficiencies of the current drainage system and called on Tashkent district leaders to take direct responsibility for addressing problems related to drainage, greenery, and beautification. He urged city officials to be proactive in resolving these issues themselves, rather than delegating them.
In response to the challenges faced by the drainage system, the Tashkent city administration has been tasked with developing a master plan by the end of the year. This plan would include the construction of a comprehensive drainage system supported by artificial reservoirs, with water collected from these reservoirs being used to irrigate trees and greenery in the city.
President Mirziyoyev also raised concerns about the increasing number of diseased trees in the capital and emphasized the need for an integrated approach that includes water collection and environmental sustainability in addition to fixing the drainage system.
This is not the first time that President Mirziyoyev has called for improvements to Tashkent’s drainage system. In a previous meeting in January, he set a deadline for the city administration to identify and resolve the most problematic areas in the system by September 1, as well as develop a master plan for overall improvement. The president’s continued focus on these issues underscores the importance of addressing infrastructure challenges to ensure the well-being of Tashkent residents and the city’s environment.
