President of Kyrgyzstan addresses BRICS summit in Kazan
President Sadyr Japarov of the Kyrgyz Republic recently addressed the XVI BRICS+ summit in an expanded format in Kazan, emphasizing the country’s shared goals with the BRICS nations. The President highlighted Kyrgyzstan’s commitment to developing entrepreneurship, digital technologies, and environmentally friendly solutions, as well as addressing climate issues.
President Japarov pointed out that these principles align with the Sustainable Development Goals outlined in the Kyrgyz Republic’s National Development Strategy until 2040. He particularly emphasized the importance of combating climate change, especially for mountainous regions like Kyrgyzstan. The country initiated the “Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions” for 2023-2027, which was endorsed by the UN General Assembly.
Additionally, Kyrgyzstan’s efforts to promote a new global Dialogue on Mountains and Climate Change were recognized, along with the establishment of the Mountain Partnership Negotiating Group. President Japarov advocated for a fair international economic order, universal access to global economic benefits, and the development of alternative mechanisms for cross-border payments within the BRICS framework.
The President expressed interest in collaborating with the New Development Bank to finance infrastructure and sustainable development projects in both BRICS countries and other developing nations. He underscored the bank’s role in eradicating poverty, enhancing infrastructure, and bolstering resilience to global challenges. Furthermore, President Japarov highlighted Kyrgyzstan’s willingness to share its expertise in digitalization, infrastructure projects, and transitioning to a green economy with BRICS+ participants.
