President of Turkmenistan meets with Japanese business leaders
President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, recently had a fruitful meeting with representatives of the Japanese business community during his visit to Japan on April 15, 2025. The meeting was attended by various prominent Japanese companies such as Mitsubishi Corporation, Sumitomo Corporation, Komatsu Ltd., and Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd., among others.
The Japanese businessmen expressed their gratitude to President Berdimuhamedov for dedicating his time to the meeting and highlighted the importance of strengthening trade and economic ties between Japan and Turkmenistan. They also congratulated the President on being awarded the Honorary Title of Doctor of the University of Tsukuba.
President Berdimuhamedov, in turn, expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to discuss future cooperation with the Japanese representatives. He emphasized Turkmenistan’s focus on modernization and innovation in various industries, including the transition to a “green” economy, energy diversification, and transport connectivity. The President highlighted the potential for long-term investments from Japanese companies in Turkmenistan’s economy.
During the meeting, President Berdimuhamedov mentioned the successful joint projects between Turkmenistan and Japanese companies in recent years, such as the gas chemical complex in Garabogaz and the polymer plant in Kiyanly. He invited Japanese businessmen to participate as honored guests in an upcoming International Forum in Ashgabat, marking the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality.
Following the discussions, several bilateral documents were signed, outlining future cooperation initiatives between Turkmenistan and Japanese companies in various sectors including energy, infrastructure, and education. These agreements are expected to further enhance economic collaboration between the two countries.
President Berdimuhamedov concluded his visit to Japan by expressing his gratitude to the Japanese side for organizing the meeting and encouraging fruitful cooperation between Turkmenistan and Japan. The visit also included bilateral meetings between Turkmenistan’s delegation and key Japanese institutions to explore opportunities for expanding cooperation in different sectors.
