President of Uzbekistan Grants Pardon to 488 Convicts

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has shown an act of compassion by signing a decree on 28 March to pardon a group of individuals who have sincerely repented and are committed to reforming themselves. The announcement was made by the president’s press service, as reported by Gazeta.uz.

This gesture of mercy comes just before the Ramadan holiday (Eid al-Fitr), with a total of 488 individuals being pardoned. Among them, 100 will be fully released from their primary sentences, 268 will be granted conditional early release, and 34 will have their sentences replaced with more lenient penalties. Additionally, prison terms for 86 individuals will be reduced.

In line with the decree, the president has instructed authorities to provide support for the pardoned individuals in their process of reuniting with their families, reintegrating into society, finding productive employment, adopting a healthy lifestyle, and actively participating in community life.
