President Ratifies Contract with Iran for Convict Transfer
The ratification of the agreement between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran on the transfer of convicted persons is set to increase the effectiveness of the interaction between authorized bodies of the two states in this area. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed the Law on the ratification of this agreement, which was signed in Tehran on June 18, 2023.
Senators had previously noted in January that the ratification of this agreement establishes a legal basis for the transfer of convicted individuals between Uzbekistan and Iran. This agreement will allow citizens of both countries who have been deprived of their freedom due to criminal offenses to serve their court-appointed sentences in their home country. Additionally, it will facilitate bilateral cooperation in the field of transferring convicts.
The ratification and implementation of this agreement will create a regulatory framework for the transfer of convicts and enhance the collaboration between the authorized bodies of Uzbekistan and Iran in this area. The agreement was signed during the official visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Iran in June 2023, highlighting the commitment of both countries to strengthening their cooperation on legal matters.
