President Serdar Berdimuhamedov’s Participation in the CIS Heads of State Summit
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan recently attended the CIS Heads of State Summit in Moscow, Russia on October 8, 2024. The President arrived in Russia the day before for his working visit and joined other leaders from the Commonwealth of Independent States for the important meeting.
The Summit, held at the Grand Kremlin Palace, saw the presence of leaders such as President Vladimir Putin of Russia, President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of Armenia, and other heads of state from CIS member countries. The agenda of the meeting covered various cooperation issues, including economic partnerships, trade, investment, and humanitarian ties among the member states.
During the Summit, President Berdimuhamedov expressed gratitude to President Putin for the warm welcome and hospitality. He highlighted the achievements and priorities of the CIS, focusing on security, economic partnership, and humanitarian cooperation. The President also emphasized Turkmenistan’s support for deepening economic ties within the CIS, particularly in transportation, energy, and green economy sectors.
President Berdimuhamedov proposed discussions on unified tariff, customs, and visa preferences for countries involved in the North-South transport route project. He also advocated for expanding energy supplies across the CIS region and promoting low-carbon energy production clusters.
The Summit concluded with the signing of final documents, including the decision for the Republic of Tajikistan to hold the presidency of the CIS in 2025, with co-chairing by Russia and Turkmenistan. President Berdimuhamedov thanked the Russian Federation for its effective chairmanship and praised CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev for his coordination efforts.
Following the Summit, President Berdimuhamedov concluded his visit to Russia and returned to Turkmenistan. The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of CIS member states to enhance cooperation and build fruitful partnerships for mutual benefit in the coming years.
