Azerbaijan’s President Emphasizes Strategic Ties with China at SCO
During a recent interview with China Global Television Network (CGTN) in Beijing, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev expressed optimism about strengthening ties with China and enhancing Azerbaijan’s involvement in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
“Azerbaijan is a strong supporter of multilateralism,” he stated, indicating the country’s desire to align more closely with the SCO. He noted that President Xi Jinping had extended an invitation for him to participate in an upcoming summit, signaling the importance of this partnership.
Aliyev emphasized the strategic geography of Azerbaijan, situated on the western edge of the Caspian Sea and serving as a vital hub in the South Caucasus. He highlighted the potential collaborative opportunities under the SCO’s umbrella, particularly in areas related to political relations and transportation infrastructure.
The president’s remarks reflect Azerbaijan’s commitment to fostering robust international partnerships and enhancing its role as a key player in regional dynamics. With plans to return to China in the coming months, Aliyev’s government is poised to leverage these strategic alliances for mutual benefits.
Overall, the dialogue underscores a shared vision of cooperation that could further integrate Azerbaijan into broader economic and political frameworks within the region.
