President Tatar responds to “Famagusta” series airing on BRTK digital platform

Ersin Tatar, the President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), has expressed his disapproval of the upcoming series “Famagusta”, produced by the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus (GCASC), for portraying Turkish soldiers as occupiers. Tatar called on Turkish producers to create a powerful series that reflects the true history and struggles currently ongoing in Cyprus.

In an interview with an AA correspondent, Tatar criticized the series “Famagusta” for not accurately depicting historical events and engaging in black propaganda by suggesting that the Cyprus issue started in 1974. He questioned the decision of an international digital platform to broadcast the series and called for a more factual representation of the situation.

Tatar expressed gratitude for Turkey’s response to the series, emphasizing the need to condemn such misinformation and propaganda. He highlighted the longstanding history of conflict in Cyprus, dating back to the 1950s, and the suffering of Turkish Cypriots at the hands of violence and displacement.

The TRNC President reaffirmed his commitment to defending the independence and freedom of his state, with the support of the Republic of Turkey. Tatar urged for a balanced and informed approach to TV series production, suggesting that a more accurate portrayal could be achieved by listening to both sides of the story.

Recognizing the success of Turkish TV series worldwide, Tatar encouraged Turkish producers and scriptwriters to create a compelling series that reflects the ongoing struggles in Cyprus. He emphasized the importance of telling the story of the Turkish Cypriots with respect and accuracy, in contrast to the misleading narrative presented in “Famagusta”.
