Kazakhstan Ratifies Agreement on International Combined Freight Transport
On June 27, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed into law an agreement on international combined freight transport between the governments of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) member states. This agreement, ratified to enhance transit and transport potential and trade and economic relations among OTS member states, aims to boost connectivity and cooperation in the region.
According to Kaazfinorm, the agreement will play a vital role in the development of modern railway, water, and road transport systems. It will also facilitate the exchange of information to expedite customs procedures for trains and introduce digital solutions for goods transportation. Amangeldi Nugmanov, Deputy of the Senate in Kazakhstan, emphasized the importance of this agreement in fostering a more efficient and streamlined transport process.
The newly ratified law is expected to simplify procedures for international combined transport and increase cargo transportation by road, rail, and sea among OTS member states. With a focus on promoting seamless movement of goods and enhancing connectivity, this agreement sets the stage for improved regional cooperation and economic development.
The agreement was initially signed by OTS members in Samarkand on November 11, 2022. With the ratification by Kazakhstan, this agreement is now set to pave the way for greater collaboration and progress in international freight transport within the region.
