Presidential Envoy Holds Meeting in Batken to Address Mudflow Concerns
Bishkek – On June 25, 2024, the Presidential Envoy to Batken region, Abdikarim Alimbayev, convened an operational headquarters meeting with district heads, city mayors, and regional civil protection service employees to address the aftermath of mudflows. The press service of the office of the Presidential Envoy reported the details of the meeting.
Over 1,000 residents were evacuated due to the mudflows in Batken, with one fatality reported, a five-year-old child from Zhenish village, and a 70-year-old resident sustaining serious injuries. Additionally, 8 heads of cattle and 42 heads of small cattle were swept away in the disaster.
A comprehensive response plan was put in place by the regional authorities to clean up the affected villages, restore essential services like water and electricity supply, and provide support to the residents, including psychological assistance.
Photos from the affected areas show the extent of the damage caused by the mudflows, with residential buildings, vegetable gardens, social facilities, roads, a transformer, and bridges severely affected.
Efforts are currently underway to repair the damages and restore normalcy to the region. Despite the challenges posed by the natural disaster, roads in Batken are now open for traffic, signaling progress in the recovery efforts.
