President’s Remarks on Acquisition of Apartments for Diplomatic Staff

Kyrgyzstan’s President, Sadyr Japarov, has recently spoken out about the country’s decision to purchase apartments and offices for employees of Kyrgyzstani embassies and representative offices abroad. In an interview with the Kabar news agency, Japarov explained that renting offices and apartments for diplomatic missions puts a strain on the national budget.

The President highlighted a specific example of the Kyrgyz representative office to the UN in New York, where a representative has been renting an apartment for 30 years at a cost of $5,000 per month. Japarov pointed out that over 30 years, the amount spent on rent could have bought four apartments instead. He emphasized that purchasing the property outright would have been more financially sustainable in the long term.

Japarov criticized previous ministers for not taking action on this issue sooner, but he expressed optimism about the current efforts to buy apartments and offices for Kyrgyzstani ambassadors, consuls, and employees abroad. With embassies in 30 countries and consulates in 11 countries, the President stressed the importance of securing permanent properties that would belong to the state indefinitely.

Currently, Kyrgyzstan only owns offices in three countries, including Berlin, Brussels, and Moscow. Japarov revealed that plans are in place to purchase real estate in additional locations, such as Hungary, Switzerland, Austria, and Novosibirsk (Russia). The President also mentioned plans to acquire official apartments in New York and Berlin.

As the work to secure office spaces and apartments for diplomatic missions continues, Japarov underlined the significance of these investments in ensuring long-term financial stability for Kyrgyzstan’s representation abroad. During a working visit to Paris, the President personally inspected the new building of the Kyrgyzstani Embassy in France, underscoring the government’s commitment to strengthening its diplomatic presence internationally.
