Prevention of 4.5 tons of Grapes Smuggling from Tajikistan to Kyrgyzstan
On August 2, 2024, in Bishkek, the 24.kg news agency reported that the illegal import of over 4.5 tons of grapes was recently prevented in Batken. The Customs Service’s press service released a statement detailing the incident.
The interception occurred on the Batken-Osh-Batken highway, where two Kyrgyzstan citizens were driving Mercedes-Benz 416 and Mercedes-Benz 413 vehicles. Upon inspection, officials discovered 4,720 kilograms of grapes from Tajikistan in the cargo compartment. The goods, valued at 96,700 soms, were being transported without the necessary accompanying documents and customs clearance.
As a result, the vehicles were seized and taken to the premises of Kaiyrma+Duma LLC while the investigation into the case continues to uncover all relevant details. Such incidents highlight the ongoing efforts to combat illegal import activities in the region.
