Prime Minister Ünal Üstel Visits Turkish Cypriot Farmers Union and Discusses Support Planning for Producers

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel recently paid a visit to the Turkish Cypriot Farmers Union where he met with President Mehmet Nizam and Board Members. The meeting, which was also attended by Minister of Finance Özdemir Berova and Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources Hüseyin Çavuş, focused on support planning for producers in the new period.

In a statement released by the Prime Ministry Press and Public Relations Directorate, Mehmet Nizam, Chairman of the Turkish Cypriot Farmers Union, expressed his gratitude for Prime Minister Üstel’s support towards updating and developing the producers. Nizam stated, “We have seen the projects Prime Minister Üstel has initiated, and we have full confidence in his ability to lead us to new successes and projects. We feel his continuous support.”

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel also emphasized the importance of the Turkish Cypriot Farmers Union, calling it an indispensable union of the TRNC. He highlighted the government’s commitment to providing support for farmers in the upcoming year, stating, “We have not overlooked our farmers in the 2025 budget planning, and we have allocated necessary support to them.”

Furthermore, Üstel underscored the significance of agriculture as a crucial policy for the country. He mentioned that the government has been one of the biggest supporters of farmers and livestock farmers, providing substantial support in 2024 and promising to continue it in the future.

Üstel also revealed a new project aimed at enhancing agricultural efficiency in the Haspolat region by constructing an irrigated area for growing seeds, barley, and wheat. He thanked the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Nicosia and the BSEC Office for their support in implementing the project. Additionally, Üstel expressed the ambition of bringing water from the Republic of Turkey to irrigate the Mesarya plains, with plans to achieve this goal within the next two years.

The collaborative efforts between the government and the Turkish Cypriot Farmers Union demonstrate a commitment to supporting and developing agricultural practices in the region, ensuring the prosperity of local producers and farmers.
