Princess Lalla Hasna of Morocco graced the Old City, also known as Icherisheher, in Baku as an esteemed guest of the International Carpet Festival. During her visit, she received comprehensive insights into the exquisite carpets displayed at Gosha Gala Square.
This festival is particularly significant as Azerbaijan is recognized as one of the world’s leading nations in carpet weaving. The traditional craft has a rich history, contributing profoundly to global culture and heritage. Notably, historically famous Azerbaijani carpets continue to be showcased in renowned museums around the world.
The festival also marks two noteworthy anniversaries: the 25th anniversary of the Old City’s recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the 15th anniversary of Azerbaijan’s traditional carpet weaving being added to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List. These milestones highlight the importance of preserving and promoting the country’s unique cultural heritage.
