Prosecutor General’s Office Takes Charge of Renewable Energy Transition and Gas Supply Corruption

The Uzbek Prosecutor General’s Office Steps Up Efforts in Renewable Energy Transition
In response to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s call for a green economy, the Prosecutor General’s Office in Uzbekistan has been tasked with overseeing the transition to renewable energy sources, particularly solar panels and water heaters. This move is part of a broader push towards resource efficiency and environmental protection, with a focus on reducing the reliance on traditional energy sources.
Deputy Prosecutor General Shokhrukh Aminov recently outlined plans to cover at least 40% of the electricity needs of households, small businesses, and social institutions through renewable energy sources. By implementing solar panels and water heaters, production costs are expected to decrease significantly, leading to savings for consumers.
Aminov emphasized that these directives will be implemented without compromise, noting that the Prosecutor General’s Office and regional prosecutor’s offices have gained valuable experience in this area over the past year. The office is working to address any coercive tactics used to force entrepreneurs to install solar panels, a practice deemed illegal by the Ministry of Energy.
In addition to renewable energy initiatives, efforts are also being made to tackle corruption in the supply of liquefied gas to the population. Aminov stated that proposals to eliminate corruption in this sector will be developed in collaboration with relevant agencies such as “Hududgaztaminot” and “Uzenergoinspection.”
Ilkhom Nematullaev, head of “Uzenergoinspection,” highlighted the agency’s goal of conducting energy audits for 400 large enterprises and developing targeted measures for resource conservation. Following a successful energy audit at the JSC Almalyk Mining And Metallurgical Complex, the agency plans to conduct audits at other industrial enterprises and support efforts to improve resource efficiency in the coming years.
Overall, the Uzbek Prosecutor General’s Office is playing a pivotal role in driving the country towards a more sustainable future, emphasizing the importance of renewable energy and environmental protection in the transition to a green economy.
