Russian President Calls for Updated Migration Policy Concept
In a recent board meeting of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation held in Moscow, President Vladimir Putin called for the adoption of an updated migration policy concept “as soon as possible.” Putin emphasized the need for the new concept to be implemented within this year, which would include the abolition of paper migration cards and the introduction of support measures for compatriots looking to return to Russia.
The updated migration policy concept is expected to also focus on developing mechanisms to assist foreigners who share Russian traditional values and wish to live and work in the country, particularly those with education and skills that are in demand in the economy.
President Putin highlighted the importance of suppressing illegal migration channels and utilizing modern tools for migration control. He acknowledged the Interior Ministry’s responsibility in addressing the “serious tasks” in the migration sphere.
The previous migration policy concept was established in 2018 and is currently valid until 2025. With the growing need for a more comprehensive and efficient migration policy, the Russian government is working towards implementing necessary changes to better manage migration in the country.
