Qatar starts drawing laborers from Uzbekistan

The Minister of Labor of Qatar has recently made a statement regarding the high demand for foreign labor in various fields within the country. According to the Minister, there is a particular need for foreign workers in the fields of medicine, education, IT, industrial processing of products, hotel services, and mass media.

A meeting was conducted with a delegation led by Qatar’s Minister of State for Labor, Ali bin Samikh al-Marri, at the Ministry of Poverty Reduction and Employment. The main focus of the meeting was on attracting labor from Uzbekistan to Qatar, providing training to the workers, and organizing their deployment in a systematic manner.

An agreement titled “On the regulation of labor force employment in the territory of the State of Qatar” was signed between the governments of Uzbekistan and Qatar on June 6, 2023, in the city of Samarkand. The meeting discussed the mechanisms for implementing this agreement.

One of the major challenges faced by individuals wishing to work in Qatar is the language barrier. To address this issue, proposals were made by the Minister of Poverty Alleviation and Employment, Bekhzod Musayev, for targeted training of the workforce based on existing experience.

Minister Ali bin Samikh al-Marri emphasized that the rights of foreign workers in Qatar will be protected by the state. These principles are in line with the goals and indicators outlined in the Qatar Vision-2030 program established in 2008. The Minister also highlighted that employers in Qatar provide full reimbursement for social security, health insurance, monthly wages, transportation, and accommodation expenses for foreign workers. Additionally, a committee has been established to safeguard the rights of women working abroad.

During the meeting, it was agreed to form a joint commission between the ministries of both countries. The next meeting of this commission is set to take place in Qatar, with plans to sign an agreement for further cooperation and development.

Overall, the collaboration between Qatar and Uzbekistan in the field of labor force employment is expected to benefit workers in both countries and strengthen bilateral relations.
