Qatari Surgeons Perform Life-Changing Surgeries on Children with Hearing Impairments in Bishkek
A team of surgeons from Qatar, led by Professor Abdulsalam Al-Qahtani, is currently performing surgeries on children with hearing impairments at the National Center for Maternal and Child Welfare in Bishkek. The Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan has confirmed this initiative, stating that about 50 children will undergo surgeries at the center over the course of a week.
Minister of Health Alymkadyr Beishenaliev recently visited the center and commended the efforts of the Qatari team. He revealed that the Government of Qatar, through the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, is covering all financial costs associated with the surgeries, including providing cochlear implant systems and supporting the rehabilitation of the children post-surgery.
Director of the National Center for Maternal and Child Welfare, Shairbek Sulaimanov, expressed gratitude for the support from Qatar and emphasized that they have the necessary equipment and regulations in place for the successful treatment of children with hearing impairments. More than 200 children have already undergone cochlear implantation surgeries at the center, with positive outcomes.
Minister Beishenaliev highlighted the significance of these surgeries in transforming the lives of young patients and stressed the importance of Qatar’s contribution in providing these children with a chance for a brighter future.
The Ministry of Health also mentioned ongoing cooperation with Qatar, with plans to perform a total of 300 surgeries over the next three years and organize training sessions for Kyrgyz ENT specialists. These initiatives were discussed in 2023 during a meeting between Minister Beishenaliev, Professor Al-Qahtani, and Saad Omran Al Kuwari, head of the Cochlear Implantation Support Committee.
