172 suspects involved in crimes during demonstrations in Istanbul have been arrested, according to a recent statement by the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office. These suspects were detained for allegedly provoking social events, participating in violent acts, hiding their faces with masks, and using sticks.

Following an investigation by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, 208 suspects were detained for not complying with the decision to prohibit demonstrations and press releases issued by the Istanbul Governorate between March 19-23. After undergoing procedures at the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan, all suspects were referred to the Magistrate Criminal Judiciary for possible arrest.

Ultimately, the judge decided to arrest 172 suspects who were identified as instigators of recent social events, involved in violence, and seen using sticks while hiding their faces. Additionally, 35 suspects were placed under judicial control measures, with 6 of them ordered to stay at home.

The statement from the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office also emphasized that reports claiming the arrested individuals were being kept in police units were false. The arrests were made in accordance with the law and proper procedures.
