Mete Adanır’s life was cut tragically short at the age of 28 in a traffic accident near Havza on January 20, 1989, while the Samsunspor team was traveling from Samsun to Malatya. His talent and contribution to the sport were widely recognized, particularly with his memorable goal against Galatasaray in November 1987, which elevated his status in Samsun and throughout Turkey.

Prior to the accident, Mete was in negotiations with major teams, including Beşiktaş and Galatasaray, for a transfer in the 1989-90 season, showcasing his promising future in the sport.

The commemoration ceremony served as a testament to Mete Adanır’s legacy in Turkish football, ensuring that his memory lives on as an inspiration to future generations of athletes.
