Remembering the Cyprus Martyrs with Ediz Hun
The program “We Commemorate the Cyprus Martyrs with Ediz Hun” was recently held at Girne American University in collaboration with the Cyprus Martyrs’ Commemoration Platform, Bayrak Radio and Television Corporation, and Turkey’s Nicosia Embassy Development and Economic Cooperation Office.
The event was attended by President Ersin Tatar and Parliament Speaker Zorlu Töre, with the opening speech delivered by GAU Faculty of Communication Dean Neriman Saygılı. Saygılı emphasized the importance of Cyprus in the region, citing Atatürk’s words and highlighting the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.
Zorlu Töre, the President of the Assembly of the Republic, reflected on the sacrifices made during the Peace Operation and stressed the significance of embracing the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) as a state for all who identify with Turkish heritage.
President Ersin Tatar praised the Peace Operation as a pivotal moment in Turkish history, emphasizing the need to protect the TRNC and Turkish identity in the Eastern Mediterranean. He reiterated the Turkish Cypriot side’s sovereignty in any negotiations regarding the Cyprus issue.
During the event, artist Ediz Hun shared his experiences and memories related to Cyprus, expressing his happiness to be part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Peace Operation. The program also featured presentations on the Peace Operation and personal anecdotes from Ediz Hun’s career and life.
The event served as a tribute to the martyrs and veterans who sacrificed their lives for the TRNC, emphasizing the importance of unity and resilience in safeguarding the nation’s interests. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to defending the TRNC’s sovereignty against internal and external threats.
