Renovation Closes Kuylik Wholesale Market in Tashkent
The wholesale market for agricultural products in Kuylik is set to undergo reconstruction, as reported by the press service of Tashkent city administration. The current lack of space has led to products being haphazardly stored in adjacent areas, and over 600 trucks are unloaded daily, causing traffic congestions on the access roads and even along the banks of the Chirchik River.
To alleviate this issue, entrepreneurs are being encouraged to relocate to other shopping complexes such as Food City or Tashkent Index. The new locations are fully equipped to provide all necessary amenities for the sellers, and the process of relocation will be carried out free of charge. Additionally, sellers will be granted a rent waiver for new retail outlets for a period of up to three months.
Furthermore, the closure of the Kuylik market for reconstruction will result in the employment of 144 market employees at the Food City and Tashkent Index complexes. Free bus services will also be implemented to facilitate transportation for the local population from the Kuylik block to the market, with connections to public transport.
It should be noted that the decision to seize part of the land designated for the Kuylik market in order to expand the overpass was approved by the capital’s Council in June 2022. However, this decision does not entail the complete withdrawal of the territory allocated for the Kuylik market complex.
Overall, the upcoming reconstruction of the wholesale market in Kuylik presents an opportunity for sellers to relocate to alternative complexes with the support of the government. This initiative aims to streamline the supply chain process and improve the overall trading environment for agricultural products in the region.
