Renovation of Budapest’s Landmark Downtown Square to be Funded by EU

The Budapest city administration has announced plans to use 2-2.5 billion forints-worth of European Union funds to renovate the iconic Clark Ádám Square at the Buda bridgehead of Chain Bridge. Mayor Gergely Karácsony revealed that the reconstruction plans for the 1st district square are ready, with a focus on creating more extensive pedestrian and green areas while preserving the “iconic flower bed” on the roundabout.
In addition to this positive news, Karácsony also addressed a more somber topic regarding a children’s home in Bicske that has been involved in a child-abuse scandal. He declared that an internal investigation has been ordered to look into the role of the previous Fidesz city administration in connection with the home, which operated in the capital until 2013. The mayor expressed disappointment in the metropolitan leadership for failing to investigate reports of child-abuse allegations at the time, accusing the administration of a “serious omission” and misleading the city’s assembly representatives.
The announcement of the project was met with enthusiasm, as photos of the happy press conference can be seen on social media. The revitalization of Clark Ádám Square is sure to bring new life to this historic area of Budapest, creating a beautiful space for both residents and visitors to enjoy.
