Israeli Army Plan to Allow Passage of Displaced Palestinians in Gaza
According to the news on Channel 12 television, the Israeli army’s plan includes allowing the passage of Palestinians in Rafah to the central and southern regions of Gaza. However, it was mentioned that displaced Palestinians will not be allowed to pass to the north of Gaza.
War Cabinet Member Benny Gantz’s statement that attacks on Gaza may continue during Ramadan and that Rafah may be targeted if a prisoner exchange agreement is not reached with Hamas was also highlighted in the news.
Rafah, a city located south of Gaza on the Egyptian border, has become a refuge for approximately 1.4 million displaced Palestinians, with most of them seeking shelter in makeshift tents due to lack of sufficient housing. The city has been frequently targeted by Israeli forces with air strikes, raising concerns about the safety of civilians in the event of a land attack.
The population of Rafah has more than quadrupled to 1.4 million, as a result of influx from northern regions, following the displacement of 1.9 million people in the Gaza Strip due to Israeli attacks.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu instructed the Israeli army and security agency to prepare a plan to attack Rafah on February 9, adding to the fears of escalated violence in the region.
The situation in Rafah remains precarious as displaced Palestinians struggle to survive in dire conditions, while facing the looming threat of further attacks.
