Renovation of Historic Castle Spa Begins with Multi-million Euro Development Project
A new series of developments worth over HUF 1 billion (EUR 2.5 million) has started in the Gyula Castle Spa, located in southeastern Hungary, as announced by CEO Miklós Kun.
The investment is part of a development series that has received funding from the Hungarian Tourism Agency, with a 90 percent subsidy intensity. Last year, a new children’s ‘water paradise’ was completed at a cost of HUF 1.05 million and was awarded a gold-level certification by the Hungarian Association of Swimming Pool Builders.
Further developments last year included the integration of the rheumatology clinic building, the extension and renovation of the main building, the creation of a new restaurant, as well as a wellness and beauty area, with a total expenditure of almost HUF 940 million.
Planned developments for the future at Gyula Castle Spa include the renovation of the riding school building, the hydrotherapy section, the weight baths, the renewal of the paving in the corridor connecting the spa with the Erkel Hotel, the creation of a canteen, and the renovation of the existing restaurant. The historic swimming pools will also undergo refurbishment including re-flooring, new heated benches, showers, and lighting.
CEO Miklós Kun expressed that with the realization of these plans, the Gyula Castle Spa aims to become the best in the country. Other improvements planned for this year include the reconstruction of the water slide pool.
Before the coronavirus outbreak, the facility attracted between 620,000 and 630,000 visitors annually. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, the spa saw strong numbers last year, including a record-breaking over 28,000 visitors during the Christmas holiday period and more than 3,000 guests on January 4, 2025.
