Renovation of Zhanaozen-Turkmenistan Border Road to Improve Connections

Kazakhstan to Upgrade “Zhanaozen – Turkmenistan Border” Road

Kazakhstan is embarking on a significant road reconstruction project, with plans to revamp the “Zhanaozen – Turkmenistan border” route. This announcement was made by Kazakhstan’s Minister of Transport, Marat Karabayev, during a recent government meeting. The project aims to repair a total of 13,000 kilometers of roads in 2025, with funding already secured for 9,500 kilometers.

The remaining sections are currently under review for financial backing. As per a directive from the Kazakh President, 3,000 kilometers of roads are set to be upgraded to the first and second categories by 2029. This upgrade will not only improve transport infrastructure but also drive the country’s economic growth forward.

Several key road sections, such as Petropavlovsk – Zhezkazgan (703 km), Kandyagash – Shalkar (246 km), Karaganda – Ayagoz – Bugaz (452 km), and notably, the “Zhanaozen – Turkmenistan border” route (156 km), which has not been repaired in decades, will undergo a complete renovation.

The reconstruction of the “Zhanaozen – Turkmenistan border” route holds significant importance for the cooperation between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan. By enhancing transport links through this project, new opportunities for trade and logistics are expected to emerge between the two countries.
