Renovation Program for 33,000 Obsolete Transformers in Uzbekistan

Outdated Transformers and Power Lines in Uzbekistan to be Updated, Losses to be Reduced
At a recent meeting with the President of Uzbekistan, it was highlighted that the country has approximately 33,000 outdated transformers and 122,000 kilometers of power lines in the regions. This has resulted in a significant loss of electricity, with current losses amounting to 12%.
To address this issue, a task has been set to develop a 3-year program aimed at updating the old transformers and networks. The ultimate goal is to reduce the total losses to 8% by the year 2026.
The meeting also discussed the readiness of the country’s energy system for the upcoming autumn-winter season. It was revealed that over the past 5 years, more than 4 trillion soums have been allocated for the modernization of the network and transformers.
However, it was highlighted that some regional governors have not been giving enough attention to the improvement of transformers and networks in their respective communities. This includes the formation of funds, as well as ensuring the availability of spare parts such as transformers and wires for maintenance during the autumn and winter seasons.
Overall, the worn-out transformers and power lines pose a significant challenge, leading to the loss of 12% of the electricity produced. In fact, the volume of electricity losses in 20 districts is 1.5 times higher than the national indicator.
In response to this issue, the Ministry of Energy has been instructed to develop a 3-year program that focuses on renewing the outdated transformers and networks in the regions. Additionally, regional governors and prosecutors have been tasked with implementing the program effectively.
It was emphasized that by 2026, the volume of total losses should be reduced to 8%. This highlights the government’s commitment to ensuring an efficient and reliable energy system for the country.
Through the implementation of this 3-year program, it is expected that Uzbekistan will witness significant improvements in its energy infrastructure, leading to reduced losses and better overall performance.
