
Renowned Author Jón Kalman Stefánsson to Attend Budapest International Book Festival

The 29th annual Budapest International Book Festival is set to take place September 26-29 of this year. The event, organized by the Association of Hungarian Publishers and Book Distributors, will feature Icelandic author Jón Kalman Stefánsson and France as the guests of honor.
Stefánsson, a highly acclaimed Icelandic author, has gained international recognition for his works. Born in Reykjavík in 1963, Stefánsson has led an eclectic life, working various jobs before becoming a high school literature teacher and librarian.
His writing career began with poetry, eventually moving on to novels, which brought him immense success both in Iceland and beyond. Stefánsson’s work has garnered prestigious awards, including the Icelandic Literary Prize and the Per Olov Enquist Literary Prize.
His novel “Fish Have No Feet” earned him a nomination for the International Man Booker Prize and a win for the French Prix du Livre Etranger. Known for his richly woven stories that blend the everyday with the past and his unparalleled psychological insight, Stefánsson’s works have been translated into many European languages.
Notably, his book “Fish Have No Feet” was first published in Hungarian in 2018 and won him the French Prix du Livre Etranger in 2022. He has also published works under Hungarian publishers, such as Typotex and Jelenkor.
The Budapest International Book Festival will also focus on contemporary French literature this year, showcasing some of the most important French contemporary authors.
As the festival continues to grow and attract authors and publishers from around the world, the 29th installment promises to be an exciting and culturally enriching event for literature enthusiasts.
