Renowned Seismologist Warns of Impending Danger: 3 Fault Lines Threaten Turkey – Latest News

4 MILLION PEOPLE IN DANGER IN MEGACITY
In a recent statement, Prof. Dr. Görür expressed his concerns about the lack of earthquake preparedness in Türkiye, particularly in Istanbul. According to him, out of the 1.1 million buildings in Istanbul, 100 thousand are at risk of being completely destroyed or severely damaged in the event of an earthquake. This puts 4 million people in danger of death.
Görür emphasized the importance of building an earthquake-resistant city through a combination of effective management, public awareness, and scientific research. He warned that failure to do so could result in disappointment and great suffering for the residents of Istanbul.
The professor also highlighted the earthquake risks in other regions of Türkiye, such as Tunceli, Eastern Anatolia, and Izmir. He stressed that a major earthquake could occur anywhere in the country at any time, and that proactive measures to make cities earthquake-resistant are crucial in preventing catastrophic disasters.
Görür pointed to countries like Japan and Chile as examples of successful earthquake preparedness, urging Türkiye to follow suit in order to protect its citizens and infrastructure. The time to act is now, before it’s too late.
