Restriction Imposed on Business Activities of Ten Officials

Several Uzbek officials have had their entrepreneurial activities restricted due to their involvement in business entities, as reported by the Anti-Corruption Agency. The agency has taken measures to eliminate conflicts of interest, resulting in the termination of founding and management activities by the officials in various businesses.

Among those affected are Sherali Abdujabborov, the Director General of the SUE “Central Securities Depository”; Anvar Sayfutdinov, governor of Tashkent city, Mirabad district; Abdushukur Sodikov, head of the “National Anti-Doping Agency”; Dilshod Sarikhodjayev, head of the UE “Main Information Center”; Sanobar Nosirova, governor of Buston district, Andijan region; Dilfuza Samandarova, director of the SUE “National PR-Center”; Umid Mamadaminov, Deputy Minister of Energy; and Abdulla Azizov, director of the Pharmaceutical Network Development Agency.

This action follows an earlier inquiry by Kun.uz into “businessmen-governors,” which revealed that Sanobar Nosirova and Anvar Sayfutdinov had shares in business entities.

The move aligns with the law “On State Civil Service” that came into force on November 10, 2022, which includes restrictions on state civil servants engaging in entrepreneurial activities. By this law, civil servants are prohibited from organizing or participating in business entities, as well as performing organizational-management and administrative-economic tasks within such entities. Additionally, a decision by the Cabinet of Ministers on March 6, 1992, prohibits employees of state authorities and management bodies from engaging in business activities.

The steps taken by the Anti-Corruption Agency highlight the government’s commitment to preventing conflicts of interest and ensuring the integrity of public officials.
