Revised Passport Control Regulations for Foreign Travelers at Moscow Airports

New Passport Control Rules for Foreign Citizens Coming into Effect in Moscow Airports in 2024

Starting from October 1, 2024, new passport control rules for foreign citizens will be implemented at Moscow airports – Domodedovo, Sheremetyevo, and Vnukovo. These changes will require mandatory photographing and fingerprinting of all foreign passengers, except for diplomats, employees of international organizations, and children under six. The procedures will be conducted both upon arrival and departure.

According to the airlines, equipment for scanning faces and fingerprints has been set up at all passport control points to facilitate the new measures. As a result, foreign travelers are advised to arrive at the airports well in advance to ensure timely processing during pre-flight controls.

Earlier in August, it was announced that the experiment on photo and fingerprint verification of foreign citizens entering Russia would begin on December 1. The pilot project will initially take place at Moscow airports as part of the new security measures to be implemented.
