Revival of Nostalgic Trams in the Capital

Nostalgia trams are making a comeback in the capital city, allowing enthusiasts to catch a glimpse of vintage vehicles on the streets and tracks of Budapest during the spring-summer period.

On Saturday, the N2 nostalgia tram operated between Közvágóhíd (District 9) and Jászai Mari square (District 5). On May 12, interested individuals can ride the N18 between Csóka utca (District 11) and Szent János Hospital (District 12). This service will run once a month as announced by the Center for Budapest Transport (BKK) on Friday.

Mark your calendars for May 26, as a nostalgia tram will run to Hűvösvölgy (District 2) from Széll Kálmán Square (District 12) on the N56 line, which connects to the Children’s Railway. Additionally, on May 11, the N109 nostalgia bus service will operate as a circular service across Margaret Bridge and Elisabeth Bridge, featuring an open Cabrio Ikarus in good weather. On May 18, a special trolleybus service will run between Astoria (District 5,7, and 8) and Csáktornya Park (District 14) on the N74 line.

Retro buses will also be running in May in connection with BKV events, and their timetable and other events will be available on bkk.hu.

Tickets for the nostalgia trams can be purchased in advance at BKK customer centers, ticket offices, and from the staff of the nostalgia trams. The most popular full-price adult nostalgia ticket can also be acquired through the BudapestGO app.

Nostalgia line tickets are priced at HUF 500 (EUR 1.28) for a single journey, while nostalgia day tickets cost HUF 2,000 (EUR 5.13) for traveling on all nostalgia trains running that day. Children up to 14 years old can enjoy free nostalgia tickets, with schoolchildren required to present a Hungarian student ID card.

Conductors will validate tickets, and passengers can ring the tram bell at the terminus, adding to the nostalgic experience.

Stay tuned for an exciting journey back in time with Budapest’s nostalgic trams and buses!
