Reviving the Great Silk Road: Accessing Main World Markets

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev participated in the informal summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) with the theme “Building a sustainable future through transport connectivity and combating climate change”, held in the city of Shusha. The event, chaired by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, was attended by leaders from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, and Hungary, along with other officials from the OTS.

During the summit, discussions were held on the state and prospects of cooperation within the organization, focusing on practical interactions and mutual benefits. President Mirziyoyev highlighted the importance of the meeting in Shusha, a cultural capital of the Turkic world, and praised the progress in the Karabakh region led by President Aliyev.

The leaders emphasized the need for enhanced cooperation among Turkic states in various sectors, including trade, transportation, and combating climate change. President Mirziyoyev noted the significant growth in trade turnover within the organization and the development of international routes and corridors for cargo transportation.

Efforts to promote renewable energy sources and initiatives to combat climate change were also discussed. President Mirziyoyev proposed the creation of a Turkic Environmental Council and emphasized Uzbekistan’s goal to increase the share of renewable energy in the country’s energy balance.

Furthermore, plans for joint projects in the field of green energy and the development of human capital were put forward. The President proposed the establishment of a Research Center for the Development of Human Capital of the Organization of Turkic States in Uzbekistan.

The summit also addressed humanitarian crises in the Gaza Strip and Afghanistan, with calls for peace and stability in these regions. The participants agreed on the importance of adopting the Karabakh Declaration and signing agreements on priority areas of cooperation.

Overall, the summit served as a platform for Turkic states to strengthen ties, address common challenges, and work towards a sustainable future through enhanced collaboration in various fields.
