Rize City Hospital Project Successfully Filled with Sea Water – Latest Update
Construction of a new 800-bed hospital is set to begin in the Turkish city of Trabzon following the completion of filling works. The hospital will occupy an area of 350,000 square meters in the city’s coastal band between the Gündoğdu and Hamidiye neighborhoods. The land, gained by pouring eight million tons of stone transported from a stone quarry in Pazar district into the sea, was designed to be expandable to 1,500 beds if required. The hospital will consist of four blocks of five floors in a local architectural style. The Ministry of Health has already shared the hospital’s architectural plan, which will have 206 polyclinics, over 150 intensive care units and operating rooms. Speaking to the press, Deputy Minister of Health, Şuayip Birinci, described the project as one of the “exemplary” structures in the country, adding that the hospital’s construction would satisfy the region’s needs for healthcare provision and have the potential to serve neighbouring countries and attract health tourism.
