RTÜK Imposes Penalties on Various TV Programs
The Supreme Council of Radio and Television (RTÜK) has imposed administrative fines on several television programs for violating broadcasting laws. The “Orta Sayfa” program moderated by Doğan Şentürk and Beyaz TV’s “Derin Futbol” program were both found to be in violation of the law and were fined above the upper limit.
RTÜK also penalized TGRT News for its broadcast called “Football in the Studio” and imposed an administrative fine at the upper limit for broadcasting “ugly words that amount to insults and statements that humiliate people or institutions beyond the limits of criticism.”
In addition, TGRT News was penalized for including confidential commercial communications in its weekend news bulletin, and Tele 1 was fined for using expressions that justified a murder committed by an artist in one of its programs.
Furthermore, programs on Tele 1, including Forum Weekend and Gündem Özel, were also found to have violated broadcasting principles and were penalized by RTÜK.
Halk TV’s “Halk Square” program and “How Will It Be” program were also sanctioned by RTÜK, along with SZC’s “Parapolitik” program and KRT’s program “Mediatherapy with Zafer Arapkirli”.
International broadcasting organizations engaged in digital broadcasting in Turkey were not exempt from penalties either, as Netflix was fined and removed from the catalog for scenes in the Spanish film “Pieles”. SHOW Radio and other TV channels also faced sanctions for various violations.
Overall, RTÜK has taken a strong stance against violations of broadcasting laws and continues to impose penalties on programs and channels that fail to comply with regulations.
