Russian Ambassador Announces Opening of Consulate General in Samarkand
Russian Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Oleg Malginov, has announced the opening of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Samarkand. This comes after negotiations held in Moscow between Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Russian President Vladimir Putin, where a joint statement on deepening strategic partnership and alliance relations was adopted.
During the negotiations, 10 documents were exchanged between the governments and ministries of the two countries, including an agreement on the establishment of the consulate general in Samarkand. Ambassador Malginov highlighted the increasing importance of Samarkand as a political, cultural, and tourist capital, with many important events, both national and international, taking place in the city. He also mentioned that the flow of tourists from Russia to Uzbekistan is expected to almost double by 2023.
Given these factors, the ambassador emphasized the need for further consular assistance to Russian citizens in the region. The opening of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Samarkand is seen as a significant step in expanding cooperation between Russia and Uzbekistan. While the legal framework has been established, the process now involves finding a suitable building, hiring employees, and other administrative tasks.
Ambassador Malginov expressed hope that the Uzbek leadership and city administration would support the opening of the consulate and facilitate its smooth operation in the near future. The establishment of the consulate will not only enhance bilateral relations between Russia and Uzbekistan but also provide greater support and services to Russian citizens in the region.
