Russian Embassy in Stockholm Targeted by Vandalism, Sends Note to Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs
The Russian Embassy in Stockholm recently experienced an act of vandalism when paint cans were thrown at the premises, prompting the diplomatic mission to send a formal note to the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to a statement released by the Russian Embassy, the incident occurred on the morning of April 15. Paint cans were thrown near the main entrance of the service building and the residential complex within the embassy’s premises. The embassy quickly reported the vandalism to the Swedish police.
In response to the incident, the Russian Embassy submitted a formal note to the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, calling on the authorities to adhere to the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. The note emphasized the importance of ensuring the security and inviolability of the Russian diplomatic mission in Sweden.
Acts of vandalism against diplomatic missions are considered serious breaches of international law and diplomatic norms. The Russian Embassy’s response underscores the need for all countries to respect the sanctity of diplomatic premises and uphold their obligations under international conventions.
The Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has yet to respond to the note sent by the Russian Embassy. It remains to be seen how the authorities in Sweden will address the incident and prevent similar acts of vandalism in the future.
