“Russian Gas Supply Talks Held Between Mirzamakhmudov and Miller for Uzbekistan”

Uzbekistan and Gazprom Discuss Gas Delivery from Russia
The Chairman of Gazprom, Alexei Miller, and Uzbekistan’s Energy Minister, Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov, have met to discuss the possibility of gas delivery to Uzbekistan. The meeting covered the progress and future outlook of their cooperation, with the agreement signed between both parties in January 2023 on the supply of gas from Russia to Uzbekistan through the “Central Asia – Central” pipeline.
Despite the agreement, discussions are still underway due to the hesitation of Uzbekistan to proceed with a tripartite gas union together with Russia and Kazakhstan. Uzbekistan wants a sales contract agreement to purchase gas from Russia, while Russia seeks a more strategic approach to gain control over Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan’s gas transmission networks.
These details were disclosed after the recent working meeting, where both parties discussed further plans to ensure gas delivery begins from March of this year at the market price. However, no other details were given regarding the working meeting.
The supply of gas from Russia to Uzbekistan is a significant milestone for both countries, with the progress of their cooperation expected to increase trade volume and strengthen mutual relationships.
