Russian Railways Launches New Train Service between Tashkent and Chelyabinsk

Russian Railways to Restore Train Service Between Tashkent and Chelyabinsk

Rail services between Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and Chelyabinsk, Russia, will be reinstated by Russian Railways starting from December. The decision to restore the intercity train service on the Tashkent – Chelyabinsk route comes after a suspension in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Kommersant, the press service of the Russian state-owned company confirmed the resumption of traffic on the Tashkent – Chelyabinsk intercity train. From December 10, the entire Russian Railways network will once again offer train services on this route.

Although the updated schedule and train formation plan will be effective throughout the year, Russian Railways has not released a new schedule yet. Prior to the suspension of railway services last year, trains No. 365/366 operated twice a week from Chelyabinsk to Tashkent, with a travel time of nearly 59 hours.

Furthermore, there is a possibility that train service from Tashkent to Kazan, which was also halted in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, may be restored by 2024. However, this would require coordination with Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.

The resumption of rail services between Tashkent and Chelyabinsk will undoubtedly benefit passengers and facilitate travel between the two cities. It will also contribute to the overall recovery and revival of the transportation sector, which has been severely impacted by the pandemic.
